Trodden bodies (2022)

Work-in-progress images

Soil, resin, adhesive, foam, paint, wood, mixed media. Dimensions variable

The series of minuscule sculptures are moulded from or take direct reference from everyday objects that have been stepped on. From chewed gum to footprints in the mud, each of these represent textural surfaces that have been marked through ignorance and a lack of care. In their casual passing a new terrain is created, one that is scarred, bruised or flattened. The work uses these small traces of neglect as stand-ins for actual bodies, thrown from their original function and here stepped upon. Trodden bodies can be presented collectively as a floor based installation or in their various parts scattered in various sections of the gallery space.
